Dr. Nikhil Patil, an acclaimed homoeopath, talks about homoeopathy and busts the age-old myths…
Being a homoeopathic doctor, do you face a lot of criticism in the world of allopathics? What kind of criticism? And how do you deal with it?
Homoeopathy is a well-proven science, and is practiced at large worldwide. Every law has exceptions and similarly, every system of medicine has some flaws. Yes! There is criticism and I feel it is healthy criticism. It helps me grow and become a better doctor every day. There are patients who come with hesitation and ask me questions about authenticity of homoeopathy, its curative powers and mostly about the time taken to cure diseases. With advancement in technology and practicing methods, the time to cure diseases has reduced up to certain hours. In acute conditions like asthmatic attacks, homoeopathic treatment can reduce patient’s sufferings in minutes.
The criticism is mostly about time taken to cure diseases and with adapting to certain methods of treatment I am able to deal with that criticism by showing results. I feel dealing with criticism has to be this way only. Finding each other’s faults is not going to reduce the suffering of the person; instead of reacting to such things I spend my time in improving my methods and reducing the suffering of the patient. Around 2-3 years back, there was lot of discussion going on about the “Placebo Effect” of homoeopathy and I guess everybody has come out of it. With the help of modern technology, scientists have proven that there is no such thing as “Placebo Effect” in homoeopathy, and actually homoeopathy works on nano-technology.
What is the difference between a homoeopathic treatment and an allopathic treatment? How does homoeopathy really work?
A substance can cure what it can induce. This is the simplest explanation of how exactly homoeopathy works. Medicines are prepared in such a way that their disease-inducing properties are changed to disease-curing properties by the method of potentisation. The homoeopathic system believes in treating the patient as a whole; all the illnesses of a patient are taken in to consideration and then the medicine is selected which has the capacity to take care of the root cause of every suffering. There are 3 basic types of diseases considered in homoeopathy: 1) Psora: which is functional change, 2) Sycosis: which is caused by the emotional disturbances or traumas and 3) Syphillis: which are destructive changes. Taking this into account, homoeopathic treatment is given.
Homoeopathy believes in disease diagnosis and follows modern medicine diagnosis. It believes that every individual is different and so his suffering. We are trained to find out those individualistic characters of every patient and on that basis medicines are selected. Homoeopathic medicines are proved on healthy human beings so that all the changes; mental, emotional and physical, are well understood. This is the reason homoeopathy has no side effects.
Allopathic medicines are given on the basis of sign and symptoms and homoeopathic medicines are given by considering person as a whole. This is the basic difference between homoeopathy and allopathy. No doubt that allopathic treatments are good in emergencies but they come with their respective side effects. Homoeopathic medicines when taken from qualified doctors don’t have any side effects.
A lot of people these days suffer from lifestyle issues: migraines, blood pressure, chronic back problems etc. Does homoeopathy have any cures for these problems?
Now almost everybody is suffering from diseases related to their lifestyle or we can say that almost every disease is related to our lifestyles. Homoeopathy has better medicines in curing such lifestyle diseases. Improving our lifestyle and adapting to healthier lifestyle can be the best medicine of these diseases. Homoeopathy also has cure for blood pressure, cholesterol problems and chronic back problems. Homoeopathy can treat almost every disease known to mankind with exception of certain non-curative diseases like AIDS, cancer and diseases where structural changes have taken place. Migraine can be cured with homoeopathic treatment with almost no recurrence.
As a system of medicine, what are the limitations of homoeopathy?
There are some limitations for homoeopathy, like surgery. In certain cases, surgical intervention is necessary and homoeopathy has no scope in surgery. But homoeopathic treatment can be very useful for pre-operative anxiety and post operative care of the patient. In certain cases where structural changes have taken place, for example, rheumatoid arthritis, homoeopathy cannot cure such diseases. Now, research is going on and some homoeopaths have got good results in reducing sufferings in certain non-curative diseases like cancer and AIDS.
